9 Weeks: An inch to grow on

  • Is about the size of a grape, or perhaps a cocktail olive, the kind that’s marinated in vermouth and stuffed with blue cheese.
  • (Is not marinated in vermouth or stuffed with blue cheese.)
  • Has fingers and toes and eyelids and ears.
  • External boy and girl-parts are present, but won’t be really distinguishable for another couple weeks.
  • Have a uterus the size of a flipping grapefruit.
  • *BARF* Again. Still.
  • With all the extra blood pumping through the system (about 50% more blood volume, actually), body temperature may be a little jacked up.
Congratulations! Your amazing growing baby has been accepted into to the fetus-club, a very exclusive and exiting new stage in their prenatal development. Basically, this means the little sweet pea has graduated from swimming embryo creature to a recognizable human being! This week in particular, the irises of their little eyes can function, but (frustratingly for them?) their eyelids remain fused shut for a while yet. Their external ears are formed and their inner ears are now filled with fluid—so your little one is already developing their sense of balance. Your baby's little swimmer legs are still relatively, although other bodily developments are going forward at a nice pace: their kidney is actually functioning now, which means they’ve started urinating (this might seem charming now but wait till you have to start buying diapers!).

No belly shots this week - still look the same :|

Cute lingerie? Yes please!

Une nana cool is a shop that only sells lingerie with cute designs. The shops are located in the narrow street called Spain-zaka in Shibuya and in a fashion building MYLOAD and elsewhere nationwide.

If you purchase a simple colorful cotton item and also an applique for it, a sales assistant can stick it on with a special big iron on the spot at your request. The bras sold ranges in sizes up to about 36DD for American, and 90E for French, and about 3 for Italian.

Some of their merchandise

err...yeah, not a matching pair but you get the idea, right? xD

Wednesday's Shots

Sharing my latest - not necessarily taken today.

Shibuya Crossing
Shibuya Crossing

I'm thinking of doing this bi-weekly.

Everything must have a face!

Oh noes

This omelet-rice was completely lacking in any human-like facial features. So I used ketchup to attempt to help this omelet-rice express its thoughts about being my dinner. Apparently it wasn't happy about the idea. Fortunately it didn't have any tomato-based appendages or vocal cords, so this wasn't much of an obstacle to overcome.

Because Hello Kitty gets a bit lonely...

Miss Bear's Dream

Some facts about Miss Bear's Dream, another Sanrio character:

>> Lives in her own little world, and is quite shy
>> When she is feeling happy, she tends to blow kisses
>> She preens her eyelashes and brushes her fluffy tail daily
>> She is very fluffy, and loves to surround herself with cute things
>> Favorite food: Sweet donuts with delicious heart-chocolate topping.

It was fun last time, so I'll do it again!

Speaking about a giveaway... keep a look-out for that ;)

Deadly Cute - not exactly what you're expecting...

What to say about except take caution. Imagine all the things you love perverted and massacred. It has its own appeal, no? Some images are NSFW.

Follow who?

These Japanese university students perform a pretty stunning synchronized walking routine.

“Shuudan Koudou” (集団行動 – collective action) was a live performance by Nippon Sport Science University students at 2009 Nittaidai Jitsuensai. The university web site says the team has so far done about 660 kilometers (410 miles) of training walk.

Designed by Ting yu Wang - PaperSelf, Eyelashes, are inspired by the Chinese art of paper-cutting. Eyelashes come are available in three styles : Peach blossoms, Horses and Peonies. Each (Peach blossoms, Horses and Peonies) has a symbolic meaning rooted in Chinese culture:

Horses: symbolic of success
Peony: for happiness and good fortune
Peach blossom: a symbol of love and romance

Eyelashes come in two sizes: accentuate the corners of your eyes with the smaller lashes for a subtle daytime look, or make a statement with the full lashes for a special occasion.

Pretty much food

Tomato cake?

This chocolate and cream cake adorned with cherry tomato's grabbed my attention. The tomatoes are almost as big as the piece of cake and it certainly offered an interesting mix of flavors!

Sunday's Weekly Pictures

Decided to start showcasing the photos I've taken this week but for now some of these are old pictures. I still need to upload the newer ones.

You can see the Tokyo Tower in the background

I can't sleep, so here's a daily find

I like cute girlie stuff. So yes, these cute, colorful illustrated cards from MerryDay do make me smile. They make great gift cards, postcards or as bookmarks. You can also find cutely designed gift tags.

What's interesting to note is that all the girls illustrated have either fruity or pastry origins. The Orange Girl with big starry eyes, the Tulip Girl who loves gardening, the Fruity Cute Girl with mixed fruits on her head or the Cute Cake Girl are all so lovely looking.

8 Weeks - Goodbye sea creature, hello baby!

  • Is about the size of a gummy bear or kidney bean.
  • Is extremely jointy, with fingers and toes and elbows and knees that s/he can bend and wiggle.
  • Almost doesn’t have a tail anymore.
  • Possibly a walking ball of first-trimester misery, if I may project myself on you for a bit.
  • *BARF*
  • May be having trouble sleeping at night, despite being exhausted.
Woohoo! You've got one whole inch of baby inside of you! Your little embryo has finally reached the one-inch mark (30mm). And if it were possible to take a peek, you could actually see your tiny baby without a telescope! What’s more, your baby is finally starting to take on some very distinct human features. For starters, their little tail (really just the spinal cord) has disappeared completely. It’s nice to know your baby can no longer be mistaken for a sea creature! Additionally, both their toes and fingers are prominent with very little, if any, webbing. Upper and lower limbs all show recognizable joints (elbows and knees) and the lower limb bones are starting to ossify. But don’t expect your baby to resemble either parent quite yet. Right now, your baby’s head is disproportionately larger than the rest of their body--making up almost half of your little one’s height and weight!

**I believe I might be seeing a very barely-there baby bump, so, I've decided to start with my weekly belly shots - just for comparison for the next one.

How about a watermelon cooler?

How about a watermelon cooler?

The prestigous Marugoto Tamachan watermelon cooler will keep your watermelon nice and cool, perfect for a picnic on the beach. If you’d rather snack on a warm watermelon, this fine cooler can also heat it up. The manufacturer says that the compact portable watermelon cooler can also function as a cooler or heater for canned coffee and tea, meat and other foods. It’s easy to move it around because the wheels can rotate 360 degrees.

Marugoto Tamachan is available only in Japan and costs 19,950 Yen, about $236.

A Floating Duck

The Floating Rubber Duck is a project of the Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.

"The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages" - Florentijn Hofman

Here is the quote from The Floating Rubber Duck's site:

"The Floating Duck knows the political border doesn't exist around the world. And the Duck has healing power to relieve world tension. So people of all generations will accept him gently and friendly. Since 2007 the Rubber Duck has floated around the world. It pops up in different countries from France to Brazil and from The Netherlands to Japan."

The pictures above are all from The FRD's 2009 exhibit on the river nearby Nakanoshima, Osaka, Japan.

7 Weeks, 1 Day - Welcome to the hormonal rollercoaster!

Just chronicling every moment of my pregnancy~

Little Bean:
  • Still with the growing. Always with the growing. Your baby starts off this week at four or five millimeters long, but is a whopping half an inch by the end.
  • Has a two-chambered heart, air passages in the lungs, and cerebral hemispheres in the braaaaaains.
  • Has an appendix, which is kind of cool until you remember that the appendix is almost completely useless. But it’s there now! Awww.
As for Me:
  • Might be feeling a little urpy and gaggy and pukey.
  • Are incredibly sensitive to smells.
  • Like, seriously. Who burned an English muffin in the employee break room this morning? WHO? WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN, YOU MUFFIN-BURNING BASTARD.

Your baby is really beginning to develop more physical definition this week – their oversized head isn’t just large and oblong anymore, it’s actually a little bit pointy. The tiny receding tail bud is now starting to be overshadowed by the growth of their legs, which are now complete with knees and the beginnings of toes. Their eyes and ears are the most visible features on their head and their miniature bones are starting to harden throughout their body. You also have some variation on a boy or a girl at this point, although their genitals won’t be visible enough to determine which color cigars you’re going to buy until around the 16th week.

It Begins
Found out nearly two weeks ago - been wanting to share it since.

I'm about 6 weeks. Been feeling kinda sick not feeling to great. Really nauseous, kinda tired. I know that's normal during pregnancy, especially early on.

My last pregnancy ended in a miscarriage when I was about this far a long last time. I wasn't sick at all and that was likely because I was going to have the MC. It's kind of a surprise to me this time how much I feel it and that's a good thing. So it must mean everything is all right, hopefully. I got my blood drawn yesterday morning and got the results back earlier today. The number looks good but without a number to compare it to, there's no way to know for sure if everything is okay. It's a little frustrating but because the way I feel I'm pretty sure they're rising. By next week I'll have the next appointment and I'll be seven weeks. I'll have my ultrasound and hopefully we can see everything is good and healthy. I'm just concerned about that cause that's when we noticed there was a problem with my baby last time. I actually had a  miss miscarriage and had the D&C around seven weeks after I started spotting, finally, but right now where I'm at six weeks is around where they think the baby stopped growing last time. So, it feels like I'm walking on egg-shells right now.

I'm very nervous but cautiously optimistic. Still, very happy.

Who's watching?

Nikodama (ニコダマ) is a new Japanese high-tech toy: a pair of two gazing eyeballs that you can put on practically any object or surface.

But that’s not all. The fun part: once both eyes are aligned on a surface, they send each other signals and start blinking simultaneously.

A pair of Nikodama eyeballs which measure 7.6 cm (3 inches) in diameter is powered by 6 AAA batteries. The package comes with a decoration sheet so you can make the eyes look even more fun which decorative tears, eyebrows, nose and such.

Watch Nikodama in action here:
